New Plymouth to Taumarunui
Today’s trip will be THE FORGOTTEN
WORLD HIGHWAY 43 from Stratford to Taumarunui. A windy and narrow road through a magnificent
country side. At Strathmore we made a side trip
to Aotuhia and the Bridge to somewhere. We were travelling on a very narrow
gravel road, to this Bridge to somewhere and it is really in the middle of
nowhere. Back on route 43 the next stop was
Whangamomona. We were just having our lunch when suddenly the Classic
Marathon 2010 team arrived. It was nice to talk to the people
and hear about their cars. Next stop was the 160m long Moki
tunnel built 1936 and is known locally as the Hobbit’s Hole. The tunnel’s floor was lowered in
1989 to allow access for triple-decked stock trucks. Today’s trip: |
